Ireland’s Only Catholic radio station – Radio Maria Ireland –

launches on 11 February 2016

Radio Maria Ireland is celebrating the Feastday of Our Lady of Lourdes with the station’s official launch today (Thursday, 11 February 2016). The special guest speaker at this evening’s celebrations will be Archbishop Diarmuid Martin, Archbishop of Dublin and Primate of Ireland, who will bless the station.

Radio Maria Ireland – the country’s only Catholic radio station – is an internet and digital audio broadcasting (DAB) station.

Listeners can tune in by:

Internet at www.radiomaria.ie,

  • Smartphone and tablet app (by downloading the ‘Radio Maria World Family’ app) from the App Store (for Apple devices) and Google Play (for Android devices),
  • DAB radio (DAB radio receiver required), and
  • Phoning the AudioNow’s ‘call-to-listen’ service at 01 437 3277. This allows listeners without access to computers or broadband to listen live to Radio Maria on landlines and mobile phones. (There are no extra charges for these calls.) Listeners in the United States can also ‘listen live’ by dialling 712 775 8288.

Radio Maria Ireland began operating in pilot mode on 13 May 2015 on the internet and by smartphone app. It has just recently signed a contract with the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland to broadcast its services via DAB. Radio Maria Ireland’s DAB service will be available initially in both Dublin and Cork and surrounding areas – with Waterford due to follow soon.

Radio Maria Ireland is just one of 75 radio stations (and growing) developed by the World Family of Radio Maria – the Italian-based umbrella organisation for Radio Maria stations around the world.

Radio Maria Ireland wishes to express its sincere thanks to the World Family of Radio Maria, which has assisted it in getting to this point – and to the listeners of Radio Horeb (Germany) and Radio Maria in Austria, who by their generous donations, have funded the programme to this point.

Radio Maria Ireland is a self-financing, not-for-profit radio station that relies solely on the generosity of its listeners to provide its 24-hour, 365-day service. It does not carry advertising, relying totally on listener donations.

Ostensibly a school of prayer, Radio Maria’s daily programming can be divided into three categories:

  • Prayer,
  • Religious instruction, and
  • Social development.

The daily prayer schedule includes Holy Mass, the morning and evening Prayer of the Church, Rosary, the Angelus, Divine Mercy Chaplet, novenas, and the morning and evening Prayer of the Church.

Religious instruction includes catechesis, apologetics, scripture study, theology, and more.

Radio Maria Ireland’s first pilot broadcast took place on the Feast of Our of Lady of Fatima, Wednesday 13 May 2015. Over the past number of months, we have been continuing each day with test broadcasts. Our official launch date will take place this autumn (date to be announced), accompanied by a full programme schedule.
